PLANS have been submitted to build Barrow’s newest high school with a focus on mental health and nutrition. The fitness studio, which is to be open 24 hours a day, would be created through the merger of two industrial units. The new, unnamed owners want to merge units 12 and 14 on Forge Close along the Phoenix industrial center. There are plans for 47 parking spaces with four disabled parking spaces as well as spaces for five motorbikes and seven bicycle spaces from the Asda Superstore on the A590. The design statement submitted to the Barrow Borough Council states; “The proposed development will suit a wide variety of sports and customers. The facility is looked after by experienced experts who have exercise and nutritional advice on hand and pursue a holistic approach to mind, body and soul. “” Mental health is also included in the application folder and says: “Trained first aiders for mental health with basic advice and Qualification for critical incidents will be on hand to discuss problems or traumatic events in confidential structured informal meetings. In Barrow, 14 fitness centers are already listed across the city, the closest being the ‘Ironwerx’ in neighboring James Freel Close. The project’s agents, M and P, consulting engineers, have been asked to comment, but none have yet been made.
