Arizona PBS’ Simons named ‘Best TV Host’ by Phoenix New Times

Ted Simons of “Arizona Horizon” was recently named “Best TV Host” by the Phoenix New Times.

The newspaper recognized Simons in its “Best of Phoenix” section, which highlights the publication’s most popular media personalities, artists, restaurants, entertainment and local attractions.

Simons, who has hosted the evening public affairs program on Arizona PBS since 2007, was recognized for his preparation and ability to improve the conversation while being respectful of his guests. The newspaper described him as “stubborn and lovable at the same time”.

Arizona Horizon features interviews with government officials, policy makers, and business leaders discussing current events, issues, and issues that affect the people of Arizona.

Simons is known for his political reporting every election season. Since taking office, he has reported on all federal and state elections and moderated numerous candidate debates for federal, state and district offices.

During the 2020 Senate debate between Mark Kelly and Martha McSally over Arizona PBS, Simons and his co-hosts were commended for asking difficult questions and pushing for answers while keeping the conversation between candidates civilly.

Simons received a special award for his work and received a shout-out on Twitter from well-known journalist Soledad O’Brien.

Simons has received numerous awards in print and broadcast journalism, including Rocky Mountain Emmys, the Arizona AP Broadcasters Association Award for Radio Talk Show and Radio Newscast, and numerous awards from the New Times Best of Phoenix.

He has worked in the Phoenix area for more than 30 years.

Prior to joining Arizona PBS, he hosted the afternoon news / talk show on KTAR radio, worked as news director / morning show host for KZON-FM and news / sports host / reporter for KPHO-TV. Simons was also the sports director / presenter at KOFY-TV in San Francisco.
