PHOENIX – The first Phoenix firefighter to die of COVID-19 will be remembered in a memorial service on Wednesday, authorities said. Miguel Angulo, a 15-year-old Phoenix Fire Department veteran, died on September 6 after a long battle with the virus. The firefighter / medic spent most of his career on Ward 25 in Maryvale. His life and career will be celebrated in an 11am service at Christ’s Church of the Valley on Happy Valley Road near 67th Avenue in Peoria. A procession follows to Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery on Van Buren Street west of Interstate 17 in Phoenix for a funeral service. The procession heads east on Happy Valley Road, south on 67th Avenue, east on Loop 101, and south on I-17 to the McDowell Exit, which leads to Van Buren Street. “Miguel was a dedicated civil servant and family man who loved serving his community,” the department said in the September 7 press release announcing his death. “He had a great personality and an even bigger heart.” Follow @ KTAR923
