SUPERIOR, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Wednesday’s monsoon storm forced the US 60 between Superior and Miami to close. The Arizona Department of Transportation said there was “stagnant water and storm debris on the pavement.” Aerial view of the mudslide and storm debris that closed US 60 between Superior and Miami. (3TV / CBS 5) The 17-mile stretch of US 60 is closed in both directions. Superior is about an hour’s drive east of Phoenix. Arizona’s Family News Chopper featured scattered storm debris and mudslides that struck much of the freeway. which is about a mile west of the Miami closure. It would take an estimated 300 truckloads of boulders to support US 60. It is not clear how long the lockdown will last. Motorists needing to travel to the area are encouraged to take a detour via State Route 77 and State Route 177 via Winkelman. Traffic officials point out that the road is steeper and the journey will take significantly longer. There were no immediate reports of injuries or accidents due to the weather. CLOSED: US 60 is closed in both directions between Superior and Miami (mile posts 226 and 243). The closure is due to standing water and storms on the roadway. #aztraffic #azwx pic.twitter.com/xWR5UyjzCB – Arizona DOT (@ArizonaDOT) August 11, 2021 Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation).
