TEMPE, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Replacing their broken water heater in their Tolleson home was an unexpected expense for Juanita and Melvin Allen. “It’s been outside for about three weeks,” said Juanita. At the other end of town, Joginder Singh was busy repairing his own house. His air conditioning on his house in Tempe was broken and it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. “Right now the temperature in the house shown is 93 degrees,” he said. Singh had to pay nearly $ 800 out of pocket to have a repair company fix his air conditioner. (Source: 3TV / CBS 5) Although the two families have never met, they share a common frustration with a company called Choice Home Warranty. That’s because both Singh and the Allens bought a home warranty, assuming all repairs were covered. “I said, ‘Okay, then give me the master plan. In the master plan, he said everything is 100% covered,” said Singh. UPDATE: Phoenix man receives a check for $ 625 from the warranty company It sounded good, but Singh says the Choice Home Warranty won’t pay to repair his air conditioner. And the Allens say Choice Home Warranty refused to pay to repair their water heater. The reason Melvin says is because of exclusions in the Choice Home Warranty contract. “They said they weren’t covering the entire water heater, they were covering the inside of the water heater,” he said. Singh also came into question with the Choice Home Warranty. “I’m not happy with them. I think I was tricked into buying the policy that doesn’t cover anything here,” he said. The Allens say Choice Home Warranty refused to pay to repair their water heater. (Source: 3TV / CBS 5) As a result, Singh had to pay almost $ 800 out of pocket to have a repair company fix his air conditioning. And the Allens had to pay for a new water heater out of their own pocket. “I have the highest coverage and they refused my claim,” said Juanita.3 On Your Side is very familiar with the Choice Home Warranty. In 2015, the New Jersey company was sued and fined $ 779,913 for “… deceiving consumers by refusing to provide the services”. The company claimed “… provided an exclusionary ‘service contract’, denied claims on false grounds, and paid consumers a fraction, if any, of the cost of repair or replacement.” UPDATE: After a 6 week house guarantee, the company repairs the El Mirage couple’s AC. The AG office informs 3 On Your Side that the lawsuit is still “pending” and has not been resolved. The Better Business Bureau has logged more than 7,582 consumer complaints about the Choice Home Warranty in the past three years. What does the Choice Home Guarantee say? Apparently nothing because they didn’t respond to 3 On Your Side’s numerous inquiries. “I will not use it anymore. I will get another guarantee,” added Juanita.
