PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Ten people were arrested Tuesday while protesting outside Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s Phoenix office. The demonstration took place the day after the Democratic senator voiced her support for the “filibuster,” a Senate rule that requires 60 votes to pass most bills. Those who oppose the filibuster say lawmakers use it to block laws. The demonstrators carried signs that read “End the Filibuster”, “Protect our democracy” and “Shame! Shame!”. (Source: 3TV / CBS 5) Phoenix police said they became aware of a planned demonstration at a business complex near 32nd Street and Camelback Road. The property manager of the complex informed the detectives that the demonstrators were disrupting normal business operations and that he had asked the group to leave the private property. The detectives informed the organizer of the administrator’s request. The group organizer worked with detectives, but police said a smaller group stayed on the property. The officers then made announcements over loudspeakers asking the group to leave the premises. In addition, the detectives approached each person individually and asked them to leave. However, ten people continued to ignore the officers’ requests, police said. The police arrested the ten without incident and issued subpoenas. The names of those arrested have not been published.
