PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Phoenix police say an 11-year-old girl died after an armored vehicle accident on March 24th. The accident occurred near 87th Avenue and Thomas Road. The video from the Arizona family’s news chopper showed an armed Garda vehicle with front damage and a smashed limousine. Sgt. Maggie Cox of the Phoenix Police Department said the limo that was being driven by a 29-year-old man was traveling at high speed west on Thomas Road when he lost control and crossed into traffic going east and with the armored car The Department said when the crews arrived at the scene, the 29-year-old man and his two passengers, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl, were all trapped in the limo. On March 28, the 11-year-old was in the vehicle, later identified as Jia Montanez due to her injuries. The 29-year-old driver and the 5-year-old were seriously injured. Cox said the limo driver showed signs of impairment. Cox said the armored vehicle’s driver and passenger remained in place. Both were examined by paramedics and neither wanted to be taken to the hospital. Cox said the armored vehicle’s driver was not affected.
