PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Phoenix Fire Department says a 14-year-old boy is in extremely critical condition after being hit by a car in Phoenix this morning. The crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. near 59th Avenue and Baseline Road, which is right by Betty Fairfax High School. Phoenix Police Sgt. Vincent Cole says when officers arrived at the scene, they found a Betty Fairfax High School student lying on the street. He was walking to school and was walking between a row of cars when one of them hit him. The student was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Cole says the driver stayed on site. He says speed or impairment were factors in the crash. “This is actually another great opportunity to let the public know that school is starting again. There are children everywhere. There is a lot more pedestrian traffic, especially at this time of day, and we ask drivers to be aware that children are crossing the block even when they are not there, a crosswalk, speed limits near schools and be extra careful, “says Cole Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Rundfunkgesellschaft) All rights reserved.
