architecture firm cx landscape presents ‘phoenix nest’, a wetland park project in the countryside of chengdu, china. With the aim of respecting and highlighting the existing natural habitat, the design lightly touches the earth to create an intricate elevated walkway between the trees that will serve as a regional landmark of high environmental value, with the terrain and satellite data, obtained from the area are the drivers of the entire landscape pattern. through careful analysis of the information collected, cx landscape delimited the central protection zone and the terraced wetland forms, taking into account the current topography. in fact, all of the proposed designs are reversible. View of the wetland this new central reserve is to become the green core of the entire wetland park and play the role of preserving the original ecological habitats and the genebank of native species. man will only be the observer of the ecological restoration process. the car park is on a hill with more than 20 meters of drop, the access roads to the project are elevated above the protected forest and give full play to its natural progress. view of the mountain reserve in the project, the cx landscape team provides a terraced wetland unit system to promote regenerative rainwater pumping with minimal disruption of the current topography. Four units will surround the central protection zone, each of which is a self-functioning runoff treatment plant with a size of approximately 20 hectares. The entire system is connected by overflow gabion weirs. A cascading aqueduct bypass system is intended to raise the treated water in each wetland unit and transport it to the outlet pond of the lower-lying wetland. Gabion weirs will create micro-terrain and form puzzles for the waterway that will shape the surface of the wetland. Cave View Each wetland unit collects the urban runoff water and reclaimed water from the adjacent city blocks. it becomes part of the WSUD (Water Sensitive Urban Design) component that is helping to create a sponge city in the greater Chengdu area. the large-scale wetland park is divided into small, resilient and flexible systems that are interconnected but perform their tasks separately. phoenix nest – sections the elevated “phoenix nest” walkway, which hovers over the central protection zone and the wetland system, is a land of art for the region. The inner ring serves as a core connection point and connects different zones inside and outside the park. The outer ring is for recreation and extends to tree house tea rooms, mountain slides, tree surfing adventures, bouncing sky net and other facilities. phoenix nest – node plan analysis diagram sections gabion weir terraced wetland unit systemwetland urbanism project info: name: the phoenix nest wetland park designer: cx landscape design team: george zhuo, jing peng, simon zhao, jackie gu, yue zeng location: chengdu, sichuan has., china design boom received this Project from our ‘DIY Submissions’ feature, where we welcome our readers to submit their own work for publication.
