Ana Teresa Fernández and Gallery Wendi Norris New Exhibition Catalog Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art recently published the catalog for “Counter-Landscapes: Performative Actions from the 1970s – Now”, a group exhibition that ran from October 26, 2019 to January 19 , 2020. The exhibition, which featured multiple Arizona-based artists, examined works created in natural and urban settings to address “social, environmental, and personal transformation.” The exhibition and catalog were supported by a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The catalog costs $ 45 and is available in the museum shop. Dance Coalition Awards The Arizona Dance Coalition recently presented its first Creating Connections Awards to 19 dance professionals, including several based in the Phoenix metropolis. Recipients include Lisa Chow of the Desert Dance Theater, Steve Conrad of the Arizona Lindy Hop Society, and Vanessa Ramirez of CALLE de Arizona and Ballet Forklorico Quetzalli-AZ. ASU Phoenix Mercury Showcase Murals A recent Phoenix Mercury video of new merchandise was filmed in front of the scenes, including murals of Black Lives Matter painted in Phoenix Suns Arena and Roosevelt Row and an immigration-themed mural that Created by Hugo Medina and ASU students in a humanities laboratory. Mercury player and Olympic hopefuls Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith chose the murals to highlight social justice issues. New Exhibitions at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum At the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, see how artist Angel Cabrales drew on science fiction to envision a parallel universe where the Western Hemisphere was never colonized, or explore Rodrigo de Toledo’s contemporary mythology, that explores the “illusion of separation” from the universe. ”The museum also shows“ Docents Select: Indigenous Americas ”. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art opens “Voice-Over: Zineb Sedira” and “And It’s Built on the Sacred” with works by Jacob A. Meders on Saturday, May 8th. For “Voice-Over” the artist creates a new iteration of an iconic work that “echoes cinema, theater and music festival stages” and at the same time explores anti-imperialist themes. Meders’ installation addresses “the gentrification of indigenous land and the handling of undesirable Euro-American religious objects”. Opportunities for Artists The Artlink-operated Mood Room in Park Central currently has a call for digital art with submissions until May 10th. FOUND: RE Phoenix Hotel is accepting submissions for its “Xscape” exhibition through June 14th. SunWest Credit Union is holding a competition to select an artist to paint a mural in their Mesa facility. Artists have until May 16 to apply and the selected artist will receive $ 3,000. The city of Chandler is looking for an artist to paint a mural in Harter Park. Artists have until May 9 to apply and the artist fee for the selected project is up to $ 5,000. Valley Metro is looking for an artist to create poster art to commemorate the opening of a new tram in Tempe and artists should apply by June 11th.
