University of Phoenix Hosts Educational Equity Webinar on Mindful Consumerism During Holiday Spending Season

PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE) – The University of Phoenix will host a webinar in its Educational Equity Webinar Series on December 16, entitled “Mindful Consumerism: Applying Anti-Oppression Awareness to Year-End Spending.” The event is part of a public series aimed at educators, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practitioners, college leaders and administrators, employers, nonprofits and government organizations, as well as faculties, staff, students and alumni of the University of Phoenix on the globe.

Vacation spend continues to rise year after year, and this year is no different, with up to 10.5 percent expected increase this Christmas season. The December 16 webinar will focus on how individuals can balance their vacation spending with anti-oppression values.

“This event is meant to be a conversation that will help us shop, donate and donate at the end of the year. Advice – Inclusion, Hugs.

The webinar will introduce Dunn, whose practices of unlearning dominant cultural practices, shedding the white-savior complex, and demonstrating effective allies are at the center of her work as a Justice, Justice, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI) specialist. Whether programming, leading teams in the non-profit sector, social engagement or moderating workshops – your career is rooted in the intention to do good. Dunn shares this on her way: “… bold voices drew my attention to practices and behaviors that were inconsistent with this intention – behaviors that do more harm than good. From there, “she says,” … the shift happened. ”

Dunn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Language Communication from Penn State University and her Inclusion Practitioners Certificate from the Center for Transformation and Change.

Dunn will lead the webinar and help attendees understand historical practices that continue to preserve systemic oppression, use anti-oppression tools and strategies to align spending practices with values, and a range of financial decisions and their implications for take the desired change into account. Mindful consumer resources and additional awareness resources will be available on the event registration page and will be included in the webinar conversation.

The discussion will be moderated jointly by Tondra Richardson, MBA / HRM, Director of Student Diversity & Inclusion, and Saray Lopez, Director, Student Diversity & Inclusion, both from the University of Phoenix’s Office of Educational Equity.

The webinar will take place on Thursday, December 16, at 11:00 a.m. MST. Registration is possible here.
