MARICOPA, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Two people were killed in a collision between two cars that occurred near Maricopa on Saturday afternoon. Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials say the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. west of Maricopa Sate Route 238 near Milepost 31 or 99th Avenue. Fire fighters from the Maricopa Fire Department and Goodyear Fire Department responded to the accident. Chris Bolinger of the Maricopa fire department says three people were injured. One had to be cut from the vehicle to be released. This person was flown to a hospital for treatment. Bolinger says the other two injured died on the scene. The cars involved were badly damaged. The engine of a car lay among the rubble left by the accident, as can be seen in several pictures that Howard Waggner took on site. DPS officials say both lanes are closed. We did not find out about a detour. The cause of the collision is still being investigated. For information on traffic incidents, see the AZ Family Traffic Page.
