Damn good coffee is far more likely to be found here than it was a decade ago. The different stores have different strengths, however, and to help you find what you are looking for, we’ve put together a guide to Phoenix coffee based on its additional personality shots: pastry, people watching, pouring. over, terraces. Read on to find out where to get your coffee needs right. Tres Leches Café. Patricia Escarcega Where to get Mexican coffee: Tres Leches Café 1714 West Van Buren StreetInspired by Mexican flavors and Chicano culture, Tres Leches Café is a kind of go big or go home place similar to the great personality of the owner ET Rivera . Lattes are large and available in strong flavors such as Mexican mocha, horchata and churro, seasoned with the typical Tres Leches crema of the house and with mountains of whipped cream and additional drizzle on request. The disc case is filled with Mexican mammoth delicacies such as fruity pebble donchas, heart-shaped conchas and galettas with sprinkles. Make sure you take a selfie against the pink “Girls just wanna have pan” wall. The vegan / gluten-free cookie PB + J from Dark Hall is the jam. Emily Spetrino Where to Get Vegan Coffee and Pastries: Dark Hall Coffee 3343 North 7th AvenueYes, Dark Hall Coffee is our ride-or-die coffee for vegan coffee and pastries, but we could have just said where to get Killer Cold Brew. or “where do you get sinful cinnamon rolls” or “where do you get a creamy cortada”. The place is completely vegan, but that just means they put extra thought into their homemade “Mylk” – a coconut and almond mix, sweetened with dates that’s creamier and more dreamy than regular cow’s milk – and extra creativity in their pastry containers , which includes a rotating list of gorgeous blackout cakes, fruit-filled galettes, and caramel shortbreads that don’t lack for anything. The provision is great for a coffee date. Providing Coffee Where to Go on a Coffee Date: Providing Coffee 4501 North 32nd Street Whether it’s a Tinder get-together or just a spouse outing, Provision Coffee gives you a close-out of the day. The atmosphere is trendy yet friendly, more posh than a café, but completely unpretentious. The menu features straightforward pourovers and refined lattes as well as refined cocktails: liquid courage in all forms. EXPAND Always a lot to see at Lux Central. Arya Daryani Where to People Watch: Lux Central 4402 North Central Avenue There is almost always a line at Lux Central, and a fashionable one. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the place is a constant parade of fanny packs, vintage T-shirts, and flounced dresses, with stylish students, couples, families, and singles vying for strong coffee and the chance to be seen and seen while drinking to become it. The eye candy extends to the pastry box, a packed table with multi-layered plates and platters stacked with stunning cupcakes, croissants, and cookies, and the decor, a mishmash of mid-century furniture and sculptural lighting fixtures. Go for coffee and cars at Fourtillfour. Fourtillfour Car-Watching: Fourtillfour Café 7105 East 1st Avenue, ScottsdaleFor coffee and car lovers, there is no place like Fourtillfour, the only Porsche-inspired coffee shop in the Valley and perhaps in the world. Owner Nico Samaras combined his love of collecting and restoring vintage cars and coffee in a cafe with automobiles, complete with a sliding garage door and a rolling cabin for cream and spices. The space is small, only 600 square feet, but the real action is on the terrace, where you can see vintage rigs, VWs, and classic Porsches. Fourtillfour also holds a Porsche meeting every first Saturday of the month. EXPAND Bergies, the backyard-style café. Lauren Cusimano Where to Sip on a Patio: Bergie’s Coffee Roast House 309 North Gilbert Road, GilbertCoffee can take you to places, as can Bergie’s Patio. Tucked away in Gilbert’s historic Heritage District, right next to Joe’s Real BBQ, the family-run coffee shop is close to the action and yet feels like worlds. Order in the cozy cottage (coffee is roasted in small quantities on site), then curl up on the terrace, a sprawling sanctuary with palo verde trees, umbrellas, and greenery that hosts live music and poetry readings. And yes, Fido is welcome too. Buy beans from Xanadu Coffee Roasters. Xanadu Coffee Roasters Where to Get Beans: Xanadu Coffee Roasters 625 North 7th Street, Phoenix Xanadu’s beans are no secret. Some of the best coffee shops in town have been brewing them for years, some more secretly than others. These include MFG, Smooth Brew, Jobot, Birdhaus, not to mention a few from this list (Dark Hall, Tres Leches, Mythical). But it wasn’t until 2021 that Xanadu got its own digs, a bright spot on Seventh Street with white walls and electrical decor that matched its retail packaging. Co-owner and roaster Randy Denton carefully sources beans from around the world, mostly from individual farms and small cooperatives, and roasts them on his Probat P12 coffee roaster. Jacob Tyler Dunn Where to Find a Solid Local Chain: Cartel Coffee Lab Multiple Locations If you’d asked Amy and Jason Silberschlag if they were a “chain” when they opened the first Cartel in Tempe in 2008, they would have probably laughed. Now, with six locations in Phoenix and two in Tucson, plus outposts at the over-trendy Arrive hotels in Palm Springs and Austin, they’ve put Phoenix on the coffee menu. (They also advocated single-origin coffees and chemexes long before they were cool.) Best of all (besides the coffee), you’d never know it was a chain. The pastries at Berdena are like something out of a picture book. Berdenas Where to Get Pastries: Berdenas 7051 East 5th Avenue, ScottsdaleBerdena’s in Old Town Scottsdale has everything Instagram-related: floral wallpaper, black and white tiles under the bar, a baby blue Synesso espresso machine. Homemade cinnamon rolls with vanilla bean cream cheese frosting, dense and delicious banana and nut bread, scones with more blueberries than you can count, cornflake cookies that will forever change the way you look at cookies, all homemade. With perfect morning rolls, chocolate croissants and cruffins from JL Patisserie. So many Mmmh. EXPAND Enjoy the coffee and the ambience at Mythical Coffee. Allison Young Where to Find Coffee and Contemporary Design: Mythical Coffee 1090 South Gilbert Road, Gilbert Located in a shopping mall in Gilbert, Mythical Coffee is a tall space with white walls, exposed canals and polished concrete floors. Totally minimalist, which perfectly accentuates the design elements – dangling glove lights, turquoise tiles, blue shelves and pink neon unicorn. It’s not just a pretty face. Mythical makes all of its baked goods and syrups in-house and roasts its own selection of single-origin coffees that appear under mythical names such as Helios and Bacchus. Julia Peixoto Peters serves up a true crop-to-cup experience. Peixoto Coffee Where to Get a Crop-to-Cup Experience: Peixoto Coffee Roasters 11 West Boston Street, Chandler Sure, all coffee comes from a harvest, but Peixoto’s supply of Brazilian beans comes straight from owner Julia Peixoto Peters’ family farm in South America. It goes beyond fair trade; it’s family trade. The same love that goes into the roast (run by husband Jeff Peters) and the carefully prepared Joes, which range from slow brews to inspired seasonal sips (think Samba Iced Latte and Toasted Coconut Latte).
