PHOENIX – A student was seriously injured after being shot in a bathroom at Cesar Chavez High School Monday afternoon. Shortly before 3 p.m., officials responded to calls for a shootout at the school, police said during a press conference. Shortly after leaving school, an altercation reportedly broke out in a toilet on campus and the student was shot dead. The victim, believed to be a 16-year-old boy, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, police say. Police said the shooting was not an incident involving active shooters and that all other students and staff on campus are safe. According to the police, the suspect has not yet been located. It is unclear whether the alleged shooter is also a student, but it is believed that he is between 16 and 25 years old.
