PHOENIX, AZ (3TV / CBS5) – Phoenix police say the suspects stole a pickup truck from a passerby who was trying to help in a fatal accident in West Phoenix Friday morning and ran away from the scene. The wreck occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of 71st Avenue and Thomas Road. Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller says the crews found two cars involved when they got to the scene. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Williams, the suspects in the car stole a passerby’s Chevy Avalanche after the passerby and passenger tried to get help for the injured. Police say the suspects got their guns and ammunition from the truck before they set off in that vehicle. Police later caught up with her at a house near 75th Avenue and Palm Lane. There, the officers arrested the driver who was the passenger of the truck at the time of the crash. The video from our Arizona family’s drone showed the car and truck with significant damage on the light pole. The intersection was closed while the Phoenix Police were investigating. The area reopened shortly after 11 a.m. The names of the suspects were not immediately released. Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Rundfunkgesellschaft). All rights reserved.
