Seven Must-See Fall Art Exhibits Around Phoenix

Fall is when Metro Phoenix’s cultural scene really gets going, and this season artists tackle fascinating topics from psychedelics to mass incarceration. Here’s a look at seven must-see exhibits where you can explore a hand-painted drum kit for the band Tool, a video featuring the ASMR effect popularized on TikTok, and new sculptures by acclaimed glass artist Dale Chihuly. ‘The Beyond Within’ Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum Until January 23, 2022, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum at the Mesa Arts Center is showing works by New York-based artists Alex Gray and Allyson Gray, who are part of the Visionary Arts movement. Works featured range from a tool drum kit painted by Alex Gray that will be used during the band’s 2022 tour, to paintings exploring psychedelics. ASU Art Museum ‘Undoing Time: Art and Histories of Incarceration’ ASU Art Museum Until February 12, 2022, the ASU Art Museum will show works depicting historical, philosophical, sociological and theological perspectives on incarceration, created by 12 artists working in different Media work including photography, prints, sculpture, video, and more. Oscar Muñoz ‘Oscar Muñoz: Invisibilia’ Phoenix Art Museum Until January 16, 2022, the Phoenix Art Museum is showing the first American mid-career survey for the Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz, organized with the Blanton Museum of Art in Texas. Several of the large-format installations in this exhibition will be shown for the first time. Chihuly’s works will be on view outdoors as well as in the garden’s art gallery.
