Uploaded: Wednesday June 23, 2021 According to the press release, the pandemic restrictions have been lifted and live theater performances are back at this year’s Phoenix Festival. Live Shakespeare has been a community tradition for 30 years, and last year’s COVID restrictions have effectively seen many performances. The Phoenix Festival celebrates the resurgence of live theater performances in the community. Four groups, Bridgeway Theater Company, Hope Theater Arts, Limited Space, and Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival, meet for seven events from July to August. The festival takes place in the main building of the New Hall. David Stairs, Executive Director of Santa Clarita Shakespeare, said, “It’s even more exciting to see different theater groups come together to create this summer’s theater festival.” The festival includes free Shakespeare performances, musicals, original works, family works, Audio work events and contemporary drama. This year’s festival takes place in Maine in downtown New Hall. The festival weekend kicks off with an annual special event, Secretary Miyauchi’s Court, celebrating our community’s art patrons. This year we’re honoring three people, Michael Marks, Sean Morgan, and Phil Lantis, who helped shape the arts and arts programming support across the city. The event takes place on Saturday, July 17th and includes food, wine, and ceremonies. The festival also includes spoken word / poetry events for local poets and performers. From the ashes: change, resilience and an evening of hope.
