Phoenix Zine Fest The Phoenix Zine Fest is being held virtually this year for public health reasons. The event, presented by Wasted Ink Zine Distro, will take place on November 13th and 14th. Courtney Sargent Crossfade LAB returns The Crossfade LAB series presented by CALA Alliance returns with its ninth edition this fall and offers an evening with visual artist Teresita Fernández and music and performance artist San Cha. The event on November 17th in the Herberger Theater includes talks, moderated by Josh Kun, as well as installations, music and literary art. The artists are all under or about 30 years old and use various media such as figurative Painting, abstract drawing, sculpture, video and installation. Her work explores topics such as marginalized communities, environmental degradation, and more. Poetry Out Loud The University of Arizona Poetry Center will oversee the Arizona Poetry Out Loud program, which is part of the national Poetry Out Loud recitation competition organized by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The program was previously administered by the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Registration has recently started for teachers who want their schools to participate in the current school year. Lisa Voll Photography New Beyond Season tickets are now available for the Beyond series 2021-22 at ASU Gammage. Scottsdale Public Art Canal Convergence artist Scottsdale Public Art has announced the artists for Canal Convergence 2021, which will run along the Scottsdale for November 5th to 14th Waterfront. International artists come from Brazil, France and Great Britain. Creatives from Los Angeles and San Francisco are also showing work. The line-up also includes Phoenix-based artists Casey Farina, Roy Wasson Valle / Fireweather Studios, and Walter Productions. Best Book Award The American Political Science Association honored co-authors Mark Ramirez and David AM Peterson for their book Ignored Racism: White Animus Toward Latinos. Ramirez is an associate professor at ASU and Peterson is a professor at Iowa State. The book was named Best Race, Ethnicity, and Politics Book of 2020. It’s time to relive your favorite moments from the Harry Potter film. Harkins Theaters Harry Potter Films Harkins Theaters celebrates the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with a series of Magic Weeks that show all the titles in the Harry Potter film series. Stephanie Tippi Hart / Dragonfly Studio Phoenix CaZo Dance Theater CaZo Dance Theater, specializing in kinetic movement and narrative storytelling, is hosting its annual fundraiser on September 18. The evening includes live music and painting, an auction of artwork created for the event, a sneak peek of upcoming performances, food and drinks, and the chance to talk to the company’s dancers about their work.
