Phoenix Rescue Mission, a provider of Christ-centered, life-changing solutions for people facing hunger, homelessness, addiction and trauma, has its annual Fed Up! Hungry for Change ”holiday campaign running through December 31st. The Phoenix Rescue Mission launched the campaign in 2020 to improve society’s way of coping with past hunger – mainly by treating the symptoms of hunger without addressing the root causes caused by a lack of professional development, education, Counseling, mental health services, and other resources. “The holiday season can be an especially challenging time for food insecure families,” said Ken Brissa, chief executive officer with access to addiction support, career development, job opportunities, counseling, case management and many other life-changing resources to bring groceries and other needed items direct to the Phoenix Rescue mission. The campaign includes several events including community markets, Frozen Turkey Saturday, a Thanksgiving event, a Christmas parade and a gift promotion. Donate to the Fed Up! The campaign will support thousands of families cared for each month by the various Phoenix Rescue Mission programs, including the Hope for Hunger Food Bank, Mobile Food Pantries, Hope Coach Street Outreach Services, and others aimed at ending the cycle of poverty . This year’s schedule is as follows: November 13: West Phoenix Community Market Created to distribute food donated by sources such as St. Mary’s Food Bank and the community. Grocery bags, toiletries and cleaning supplies are distributed to families while supplies last. The public can visit the Ministerio Un Ejercito Para Cristo (4013 W. November 16 and December 21: South Mountain Community Market, created to distribute food and clothing donated by individuals, businesses, and churches in the community. Grocery bags, toiletries and cleaning supplies are distributed to families while supplies last. The public can visit First New Life Church (1902 W. Roeser Road) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There are no costs for participation. ID is required. November 13: Frozen Turkey Saturday The Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Frozen Turkey Saturday aims to collect more than 1,500 turkeys delivered directly to families in need during the Mission’s Thanksgiving Outreach event and at the Hope for Hunger Food Bank will. The public can stop by the Mission’s drive-through event at the Mission’s Hope for Hunger Food Bank (5605 N. 55th Avenue) and donate a frozen turkey from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact Catie Hammann at 602-346-3347 or gikhelp @ phxmission. org to start a non-perishable grocery, turkey, or gift campaign. November 20: Thanksgiving Public Outreach Event The second Phoenix Rescue Mission drive-through event at Sullivan Elementary School (2 N. 31st Avenue) will be handing out turkeys and trimmings, grocery bags, and hygiene kits. No registration is required and whoever comes first will be served first from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or while supplies last. Register at phxmission.org/volunteer to volunteer at this event. Dec 2: West Phoenix Mobile Food Pantry The Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Mobile Pantry initiative was founded to reduce food insecurity and improve access to food throughout the valley to end the cycle of poverty. The public is encouraged to attend the event at Ministerio Un Ejercito Para Cristo, 4013 W. Maricopa Street, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or while supplies last. December 11: HometownChristmas Parade, starting at 11:00 a.m. on Glendale Avenue in downtown Glendale, the parade will allow the public to donate canned and long-life foods to be donated to Hope for Hunger Food Bank families this winter. December 18: Winter Wonderland Community Event (guests by prior arrangement only) The Mission works with local businesses, churches, and individuals to collect new, unpackaged toys, long-life foods, and toiletries. Gifts can be hand-collected or purchased from the Mission’s Amazon Charity List at phxmission.org/christmaslist. The Mission will then distribute the gifts, grocery bags and toiletries to families in need as part of its annual Winter Wonderland event.
