PHOENIX (Something good) – We know the pandemic has hit a lot of small businesses hard. A bakery in Phoenix received a boost after receiving a scholarship to help keep it afloat. While that’s a good thing, Urban Cookies Bakeshop made something great out of it! The central Phoenix store owned by Shaun and Brady Breese was one of the few small businesses in the country to receive a grant from Marcus Lemonis, the host of CNBCs “The Profit”. Lemonis wanted to help small business owners in the wake of the pandemic. The Lemon-AID Foundation grants are designed to have a lasting impact. Lemonis announced on social media that it has awarded Urban Cookies Bakeshop a $ 5,000 scholarship. Instead of using the money for themselves, Urban Cookies decided to keep paying it. As a recipient, they chose the charitable program For Goodness Cakes. The money is used to make and deliver fresh birthday cakes for foster children. “It’s huge for us and such a WIN-WIN-WIN!” said Shaun Breese. She estimates the grant will “cover the cost of baking and delivering more than 160 cakes for foster children in the Phoenix area.” Breese said it all started when a customer walked in and asked if she was from For Goodness Cakes Heard and whether they accepted donations for cake. “By partnering with Urban Cookies, we are lucky enough to realize our dream of making an impact on Phoenix this year,” said Leslie Nilsen, who heads the Maricopa County Chapter of For Goodness Cakes. You recently started here in Arizona and have already provided more than 100 cakes for foster children. “For 18 months our community kept us afloat during lockdown and recovery. The least we could do was give that money back,” Shaun said. explained. “My goal is to keep Main Street USA alive during the economic hardship that COVID-19 has brought our small business owners,” Lemonis said. “To help talented entrepreneurs, especially women and minorities, who simply haven’t had the same resources and guidance as many of us. This foundation is here to build a bridge of knowledge and opportunity for those who need an opportunity. ” “You may have heard of Urban Cookies. It won the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars competition and received multiple awards for entrepreneurship and community service.
