PHOENIX – YMCAs in the Valley are campaigning for vaccination with their new childcare program. A total of 12 YMCAs in the Valley will provide childcare for anyone who wants to get the vaccine and doesn’t have the resources to do so. “Having a child and nowhere to go shouldn’t be a barrier, and that’s why The Y is responding to it,” said David Burckhard, executive director of the YMCA for the Tempe Family. The offer is valid throughout June to provide parents or caregivers with a safe place to drop off their children while they are being vaccinated against COVID-19. The program is staffed by professionals and the goal is to give access to it to anyone who wants the vaccine. “Personally, I know probably a dozen single mothers who come through our door every day, be it exercise, swimming lessons to lead a healthy lifestyle, these single mothers who come through my door, it is a barrier that we are breaking down can.” said Burckhard.
