Phoenix airport, TSA officials say as passengers return, so do security delays

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is filling this summer with more than 4.8 million passengers boarding flights in the past four months alone, according to a report posted on the airport’s website. Due to the low passenger volume at the height of the pandemic, the security check and the pre-boarding process were quick and easy. But today the process is a little more difficult, according to Patricia Mancha, a media spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration. “During the pandemic, everyone who traveled did not see any snakes. It was a quick process. That is no longer the case, ”said Mancha. The COVID-19 pandemic hit American travelers hard in 2020 and early 2021. In addition to bans and health concerns related to travel, the government has introduced travel bans to countries such as Iran, China, the UK, Brazil, South Africa and most recently India. There were around 21 million travelers in total in 2020, compared with the more than 40 million who traveled through the airport every other year this decade, according to Sky Harbor officials.
