PHOENIX – Whether you fancy breakfast, pizza, something sweet, or just want to have a beer with friends, there’s a new place in downtown Phoenix that brings together nearly a dozen mobile restaurants and breweries. Known collectively as The Pemberton, the mostly outdoor entertainment venue is home to nearly half a dozen concepts – more are in the works and expected to open in the next few weeks Row, in the historic home of Sarah H. Pemberton, built in 1920. Listed on the Phoenix Historic Register in 2004, the property is a brunch restaurant. The main restaurant replaced “Poppy” in the nearby Cambria Hotel. The “on the run” concept was designed for express delivery and has a limited menu. At night, the menu changes to BBQ. Abnormal Beer Co: A San Diego-based brewery and winery. In Pemberton, Abnormal Beer Co. is housed in a renovated Airstream. They have a handful of beers on tap and in cans. Dino’s Pizza Napoletana: A locally run concept that serves wood-fired pizza and snacks like roasted olives, fresh ricotta, mussels and squid. FilmBar: An independent cinema. The Phoenix Theater moved to The Pemberton and opened an outdoor cinema with brightly colored plastic chairs. The venue currently offers space for up to 76 people. “We went to great lengths here to provide a healthy mix of locals and new kids on the block,” said Biannca Dominguez, director of Programming + Partnerships. Josh Frigerio, ABC15 Saint Pasta, Melt Ice Cream, Be.Coffee, Baja Fish Tacos and More, The Tamale Store and a pop-up version of Shameless Burger are in the works – February. There will also be a couple of clothing stores and weekly fitness classes said Dominguez. It’s the latest project from developer True North Studios, who have bought and developed several buildings in the area, including the MonOrchid Building, Ten-O-One Building, The Cambria Hotel, and the building where Character and Alias (formerly Josephine and Coup de Grace) are housed.
