The City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture’s new online public art map is ready for self-guided tours. It features more than 200 major public art projects created by the city’s award-winning Public Art Program across Phoenix. Each point on the map has a description that highlights important information about the artist and the project. The works range from pedestrian bridges, underpasses, street landscapes, municipal water systems and canal projects to monumental indoor and outdoor sculptures as well as terrazzo floors and installations designed by artists at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. “Art is everywhere, and now Phoenix residents and visitors alike have the opportunity to explore the city’s public art collection,” said Mitch Menchaca, director of the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture. “You can visit or learn more about these iconic pieces without leaving your home. These pieces are owned by the community and we are very excited to be bringing this type of access and information to the public. ”The map is available on the web and on your mobile device. The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture was founded in 1985 to promote and support the city’s arts and culture community to make Phoenix a great place to live, work, and visit. The Public Art Program was launched to build a nicer and livelier city. Since its inception, it has created more than 200 major projects and has become a national leader by bringing artists together with other design professionals to create a wide range of public buildings, spaces and infrastructures.
