Man violates protection order, shot by police in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AP) – A 42-year-old man in Phoenix who was in breach of a protection order was rushed to hospital after being shot by police, authorities said. Ann Justus said in a statement that the suspect showed up on Sunday at home where his two teenage sons were staying. Jupiter said the family had a protection order against the man that had been served about two weeks earlier. The emergency services arrived at around 5 p.m. on Sunday and found a suspect with a gun in the driveway. A 26-year-old police officer, whose name was not disclosed, met the suspect and exchanged shots. Phoenix Police said the officer had served in the Cactus Park precinct for two years. Jupiter said the suspect was taken to hospital after being shot. Department officials said the suspect is currently in critical but stable condition and will be charged with multiple charges upon his release. No more casualties were reported and no more shots were fired before police arrived. Authorities said another squatted house in the area, about 15 miles north of downtown Phoenix, was hit during the exchange of gunfire. During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspect’s car was set on fire before he stole another vehicle and forced its driver to take him north of Phoenix. The owner of the car was not injured. An investigation is ongoing.
