PHOENIX, AZ – With the cost of groceries, gasoline, and other necessities rising in the United States, the holidays could get especially grim for some US families. Many children could wake up on Christmas morning to find that Santa Claus completely misses their home. It’s a heartbreaking realization for any parent or child, especially as families continue to recover from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the U.S. Postal Service is hoping Phoenix residents will get involved to make the holidays a little happier and brighter for families who may be in dire financial straits. For the second year in a row, the Postal Service is running its Operation Santa program nationwide. The program, which dates back to 1912, encourages children from all over the country to write letters to Santa. Once the letters are received and posted online, others are encouraged to “accept” and respond to one or more letters of their choice. Accepting a letter usually means fulfilling one or more wishes on the child’s wish list. According to the Postal Service’s website, anyone in the United States, regardless of religion or denomination, is allowed to write a letter. Letters asking for clothes and shoes should include sizes and colors. Those requesting toys, games, and books should be specific. How to send a letter 1) Any family with a child who wishes to write to Santa Claus should use this “official” mailing address: Santa Claus, 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888 2) Write your full name and return address in the upper left corner of the envelope. Then apply a first-class stamp on the top right. 3) Letters are posted on the USPSOperationSanta.com website. Letters can be accepted on November 29th and will last until December 22nd. 4) Hand in the letter at your nearest post office. 1441 E. As soon as the letters are received, they will be put online by December 15th and will be available for acceptance until December 22nd.
