This week in Phoenix, you can watch an EDM show, watch a movie, or sing from the heart, all for free. Fatum at Maya As it turns out, pool parties aren’t just during the day. Granted, most swimming evenings usually take place during the hours of sunshine, but some local party oases around the valley with a pool on the property are also known to host the speeders after sunset. Case in point: the semi-regular Monday Night Swim at Maya, 7333 East Indian Plaza in Scottsdale, where local party monsters add an extra day to their weekend fun and frolic in and around the pool while DJs drop beats and bottles of pop. The last session on Monday 23 August will be led by the DJ / producer ensemble Fatum. Consisting of Daniel Davis, Bruce Karlsson and Chad Newbold, they have been nominated for Grammy Awards, topped the Beatport and Billboard dance charts, and remixed the tracks of some of the greatest EDM artists. Their latest EP, Stream Starting Soon, was released on Anjunabeats in June and offers different styles from Melodic House to Trance to Trap. Expect to hear tracks from the project during your set. The gates open at 9:00 p.m. Limited free entry is available before 11pm for those who register online. VIP table service is also available. Details can be found here. Free Movies in Scottsdale Libraries It’s a strange time to go to the movies. You can watch a movie in a theater, but many of the first-time movies can also be streamed. There is a third option this week; two branches of the Scottsdale Public Library show you the latest movies for free. On Wednesday, August 25 at 2:00 p.m., the 2021 film Land, directed by Robin Wright, will be screened at the Civic Center Library, 3839 North Drinkwater Boulevard, Scottsdale, starring Wyoming for a New Beginning . If that’s not your thing, at 2:00 p.m. that day at the Mustang Library, 10101 North 90th Street, Scottsdale, you can watch News of the World, a 2020 film depicting Tom Hanks as a Civil War veteran who accused is of bringing a young girl who lived with an indigenous tribe back to her family. Whichever screening you choose, don’t forget to register online before you leave. Jennifer Goldberg click to enlarge The Hot Chick is open again and ready to party.
