The schnitzel is hot, the beer is cold, and the music and dancing are lively. Oktoberfest fans are flocking to the Phoenix Club in Anaheim this month for one final hurray before the club moves next year. This year’s Oktoberfest has limited capacity due to the ongoing pandemic, and although there were still a few tickets left on Fridays, “Saturdays and Sundays are pretty much sold out,” said Phoenix Club President Linda Kriesant. “It is going very well.” The club has been a center of German culture in Anaheim since 1960 and has been in its current location next to the Honda Center for almost 30 years. But the pandemic closed events and reduced the club’s restaurant to take-out only, which severely affected the club’s finances. Kriesant said that the Oktoberfest afters were “disappointed as we were (about the move), but they are worried that they will still be able to visit the Phoenix Club”. And they will sometime in 2022. Kriesant said the club bought a venue in Brea and is working on setting it up – and the Anaheim location isn’t quite closing yet, so people can visit the restaurant and look for other events. The Oktoberfest takes place Friday through Sunday until October 24th. Tickets and more information can be found at thephoenixclub.com.
