Crash sends car rolling into oncoming traffic on SB I-17 in Phoenix | Arizona News

PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A car accident at a Phoenix intersection caused one of the cars involved to roll onto Interstate 17, causing a second wreck on Sunday afternoon. It happened around 2 p.m. near I-17 southbound and Indian School Road. The first accident was on the streets, but one of the vehicles involved rolled into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes of I-17. One of the vehicles in the southbound lanes caught fire after the second accident. Phoenix Fire Department officials said their arriving crews found 1 of the 5 vehicles involved in flames. Two people were taken to a nearby hospital, an 18-year-old girl in critical condition and a 30-year-old man in stable condition. Phoenix Police will investigate the first accident while DPS is handling the wreck on the freeway. The southern lanes of I-17 were restricted as investigators were working.
