June 29, 2021, 9:00 a.m. Are you worried about climate change and the effects it has on our water, temperatures and air quality? The City of Phoenix is asking the community for feedback on the draft climate protection plan. The proposed plan looks at the challenges of climate change and the steps residents can take to make Phoenix a more sustainable city. “This plan is empowered by community input and ideas, and achieving the goals set requires cross-sectoral and community-wide involvement,” said Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix. “The climate protection plan sets baselines and shows the path to net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier and is updated every two years to track progress and adapt to the particular needs and circumstances of our city.” The action plan includes goals and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from various activities in these areas: stationary energy, transportation, waste, air quality, food systems, heat and water. The plan contains many climate protection measures, such as reducing emissions from buildings; Transportation and waste; Electric vehicle support; Building a network of cool pedestrian corridors; Improving air quality; and continue to promote an inclusive and just city.
