If you’re in the mood for some interesting concert or nightlife over the next few nights, this weekend gives you the chance to see shows by hip hop act The Stakes, singer-songwriter Jim Croce and dancehall star Gyptian. They even went through some line-up changes (although the core of the band has always been presenters Lord Kash and ZeeDubb, pianist Ben Scolaro, and drummer Kevin Phillips). Audio Bend 2021 Saturday, July 10, The Revelry, 1065 North Dobson Road, Mesa, 602-612-3020 Concerts with big-name touring bands may be months away, but superstar DJs visit the Valley and beats out dance music events for thousands at Electronics. This weekend it’s DJ Qbert’s turn as the renowned Mixmaster will headline Audio Bend 2021 at The Revelry on Saturday, July 10th. Widely regarded as one of the best turntablists in the world, Qbert’s performances are pretty legendary in the DJ world. He is an ace at scratching, mixing and beat juggling, won three DMC World Championships in a row, founded the influential DJ crew Invisibl Skratch Piklz with Mix Master Mike and helped redefine turntable culture at Audio Bend in the early 1990s include Oregon-based EDM artists Jvckfrost and Broox, as well as locals like Akshen, DJ Phox, Roil, Elluna, BB Galli, Tempest, and CHKLZ. The event will also feature video games, turntablism workshops, vendors, and art exhibits. It starts at 7 p.m. and the party continues until 2 a.m. Tickets are $ 20. Since the release of their last album Northern Lights in 2016, the duo have been bringing electrifying dance anthems to the masses. This weekend they’ll be at Deadbeats Arizona, an electronic dance music event at the Rawhide Event Center on Saturday, July 10th. Subtronics, Rusko, Dirt Monkey, Lick, Level Up and Chiief stand for a night full of gloom on the line-up Harmonies in the Desert. The event times are from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. General admission tickets are $ 60 and VIP access is $ 125, and includes express entry, a souvenir tape, access to a special observation deck, and more. This is an event for ages 18+. Megan Marple’s singer-songwriter AJ Croce. Sebastian Smith AJ Croce Sunday July 11th Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 East Mayo Boulevard, 480-478-6000 He has a name. And it’s AJ Croce. The 48-year-old son of the late legendary folk artist Jim Croce will perform for the first time at MIM this weekend. His latest release, By Request, came out in February. Like his 2019 album Just Like Medicine, which channels 60s soul in the style of Stax Records, Croce’s latest work is also oriented towards the past and specifically refers to his favorite songs, artists and singalongs with friends at the piano (with him on Ebony and ivory). Expect to hear material from both albums (especially the latter) during Croce’s set at 7pm on Sunday night. Tickets cost $ 33.50 to $ 44.50. Bob RuggieroGyptianSaturday July 10Afri-Soul Marketplace, 1145 East Washington Street, # 100, 623-760-4854Gyptian may not have become a household name, but his crossover dancehall hit single “Hold You (Hold Yuh)” was one of them Songs from 2010 the summer. The lyrics were a little hard to follow (ex. “Gyal, mi wann fi hold yuh”), but what would you expect from a country boy reggae singer from St. Andrews, Jamaica? Gyptian first entered the reggae / dancehall scene in 2004 when he was just under 27 when he won a TV talent competition in his home country. A deal followed with the renowned reggae label VP Records, and four albums later nothing got as big as “Hold You”.
