Slightly Stoopid Slightly Stoopid at the Mesa Amphitheater In a culture that tends to pigeonhole practically everything for convenience, Slightly Stoopid defy any notion of simple categorization. They even defy their own branding with a nifty combination of reggae, funk, hip-hop, rock and punk that is far from what their goofy name suggests. In contrast to other bands who do not dare to go beyond their self-imposed limits, Slightly Stoopid willingly and often even wander into varied terrain and can be taken wherever their muse takes them. Her current summer tour will take her on Friday, September 10th, together with reggae rockers Fortunate Youth and The Elovaters to the Mesa Amphitheater, 263 North Center Street. The local band Katastro opens the show, which starts at 4:45 p.m. Tickets are $ 59. Mega Ran The Four-Eyed Horsemen Tour in the Rebel Lounge MC Lars is a rapper with a tight tongue in his cheek. His songs, inspired by the Weird Al Yankovic parody genre, bounce through a catalog of nerd-themed themes: Shakespeare, ’90s ska music, internet relationships, and additional early-season Simpsons characters. Even if MC Lars plays his music for laughter, there is wit and craftsmanship in his works, which reveal an undertaking that the artist obviously takes seriously. He’s currently on the Four-Eyed Horsemen Tour with his geek-centric rappers MC Frontalot, Schaffer the Darklord, and Phoenix’s own Mega Ran, taking place at The Rebel Lounge, 2303 East Indian School Road on Friday, September 10th. Expect all four artists to post lots of references to games, Star Wars, and other geeky subjects. The concert starts at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are $ 15. Baker III / Wikimedia Commons Wynonna Judd at the Celebrity Theater With her deep, gritty voice, twangy country accent and a theme of hell roses and heartbreak, Wynonna Judd could be the quintessential honky tonk country singer. Wynonna spent her formative years in the Kentucky mountains with nothing but a radio with the dial taped to Country for entertainment. Like all good country girls, she learned to play the guitar and to sing close vocal harmonies with her equally talented mother Naomi. As the Hillbillies in Hollywood story always goes, the Judds moved to Music City and gave it a try. For the past 38 years, Wynonna has wowed and puzzled hardcore country fans and critics alike, which in turn established her position as one of the most acclaimed country musicians of all time. More than half of the mother-daughter duo The Judds, she has made solid forays into R&B, gospel, rock, and adult contemporary pop. Judd will perform at the Celebrity Theater, 440 North 32nd Street at 8pm on Friday, September 10th with her backing band The Big Noise. Tickets cost $ 34 to $ 64. Travis Shinn Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo at the Arizona Federal Theater Pat Benatar hasn’t exactly been high in the charts since the 1980s, but is still an unconventional cultural figure to this day. Feminist ideals have shaped her career from the start, and her short hairstyle, fashion choices, and portrayal of women in her music videos have helped break conventional views of women in mainstream culture. She sang songs about child abuse in “Hell Is for Children” and blatant ballads of socially critical self-empowerment such as “Love Is a Battlefield” and “Invincible”. Benatar is currently on tour with her longtime creative partner and husband of 39, guitarist and songwriter Neil Giraldo. They are scheduled to perform at the Arizona Federal Theater, 400 West Washington on Saturday, September 11th at 8:00 p.m. Tickets cost $ 48.50 to $ 85. Mark Seliger Counting Crows at the Arizona Federal Theater After the 2014 release of Somewhere Under Wonderland, Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz took a five-year hiatus from writing until he visited a friend’s farm in England in the summer of 2019 and felt the urge to play the piano again. A few days later he got the song “The Tall Grass”.
