Article PHOENIX – People attending a dinner in St. Vincent de Paul on November 18 got a little surprise when Phoenix Suns players Cam Johnson and Jalen Smith were available to help those in need in just one week to feed before Thanksgiving. On St. Vincent de Paul families sit like in a restaurant. They order the food and their favorite Suns players were there to serve them. Some of the children even got an autograph and pictures. “My grandson, who just ran away, said, ‘Did you see the basketball players are here ?!'” Rachel Mata said. “It’s nice because my grandson loves to play basketball. Hopefully he’ll be motivated to grow up and get into the sport.” It means a lot to Johnson and Smith to be able to connect with their fans at this level and take a break before hitting the streets again. “We’re really trapped in our own world. We feel like we’re playing every day. We have a game tomorrow and two days later we’re off for Thanksgiving and you can get involved in this business,” said Johnson. “Moments like these remind you that you have a whole world, a whole city outside, that cares for us, supports us. Now it’s our turn to support the community. ”“ It’s something you always want to do as a professional athlete because you have the resources to help a lot of people and just being here, it’s not just about us . It’s about the community around us, ”said Smith. St. Vincent de Paul hosts this family dinner every night of the week and serves thousands of meals. Organization officials say they will start preparing their Thanksgiving dinner on November 19th
