Arizona bus driver accused of driving aboard under the influence of students, Jose Manriquez, is accused of driving a school bus while under the influence on a route with eight young children on board. PHOENIX – A bus driver who works for the Cartwright Elementary School District was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while students were on board. Police say a bus assistant saw Jose Manriquez behave erratically on October 1 while on a route with eight children on board. All children were under 8 years old. He was reportedly driving slowly, becoming confused and staring into the distance at a bus stop. When the assistant asked to get off the bus, Manriquez allegedly refused to let her go, and she eventually stopped another driver. An administrator eventually brought him back to campus with the help of the fire department. The Phoenix Fire captain reportedly said that Manriquez “was screaming irrationally”, claiming that someone put something in their food despite their blood sugar levels being normal.
