PHOENIX – Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of private jets, has chosen Mesa as its destination to build its maintenance, repair and overhaul facility on the west coast.
The company, owned by General Dynamics Corp. (NYSE: GD) announced Tuesday morning that it will invest $ 70 million in a new facility at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
“After several years of looking around the western US, we focused on Mesa for a variety of reasons – the infrastructure, the airport, the airport authority and local government support, the schools in the area – everything” it is the right infrastructure for us to invest and grow for many years, ”said Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream.
Burns, along with a number of elected officials and business people, made the announcement Tuesday morning at Gateway Airport.
The new facility will be the place where Gulfstream customers can fly into and have their aircraft serviced or repaired. Facilities include maintenance hangars, Gulfstream offices and customer rooms.
While the $ 70 million facility won’t be completed until 2023, Gulfstream will post vacancies Wednesday morning and begin maintenance to a lesser extent at Gateway Airport in an existing hangar, Burns said.
