During the COVID-19 lockdown, more people in the US became more aware of many aspects of life, including their diet. These vegan restaurants in Phoenix offer a variety of plant-based cuisine, whether you’re vegan or just want to try great healthy dishes. David Warr, Founder and Head Chef of The Giving Tree Cafe, has been a chef and in the food industry for 47 years. Warr is also the founder of ChocolaTree, a nationally recognized vegan restaurant in Sedona, Arizona. After Warr and his daughter received requests from customers to open a similar restaurant in Phoenix, they decided to open The Giving Tree. “In our world, we only accept what really comes from Mother Nature,” said Warr. “Our guides are authentic, real, and healthy, and we never deviate from them.” Warr says the most popular menu item at The Giving Tree Cafe is its Crunch Wrap Supreme, modeled after Taco Bell’s classic Crunchwrap Supreme. The Giving Tree Cafe’s crunch wrap version includes a lentil pancake wrap filled with a veggie burger, crispy salad, guacamole, pico de gallo, hot sauce, and vegan cheese, all made from scratch in-house . “Much of the food we prepare is normal street food or junk food, but it is produced organically. I always tell my employees that I can do anything vegan, ”said Warr. The version of the Crunchwrap Supreme at Giving Tree Cafe became so popular that it added Mediterranean and Korean barb-e-que versions to its menu. Where: 3802 E. Harmony Fulton, Joe Meyers, Jaqlyn Collier and Nate Lowrie opened Gooder Goods in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her goal was to open a cafe that was positive, powerful and real. With their creative menu and playful names, Gooder Goods offers a menu of delicious plant-based and high-quality nutritious foods. “We’re snobs about our ingredients,” said Fulton. Fulton, co-owner of Gooder Goods, says their mission is to use organic and local ingredients to create foods that make people happy and thrive. “Our favorite menu item is our avocado toast, everyone loves it,” said Fulton. Gooder Goods’ avocado toast is made with mashed avocados, oranges, pomegranates and jalapeños on Noble Bread, a local artisanal bakery in Phoenix. The other bestseller from Gooder Goods is the fluffle, which consists of a gluten-free waffle with flax, maca, fresh berries, walnuts and maple syrup. Earth opened in 2019 in the hope of creating a restaurant that is better for people and the environment. Earth offers many classic Mexican dishes such as flautas, tacos, and burritos. Kate Robles, a regular Earth customer, is grateful that she can live vegan and still enjoy traditionally inspired Mexican dishes. “Since we are Mexicans, meat and animal products are known to be a big part of our culture. Thankfully, Earth Plant Based Cuisine has provided me with so many Mexican-inspired dishes that allow me to enjoy traditional dishes that I grew up with and that I can still enjoy as a vegan, ”said Robles. Robles said her favorite dish on earth is the crazy shrimp tacos, made from beer-baked vegan fish with coleslaw, pico de gallo, chipotle cream sauce and salsa roja. Where: 2014 N. 7th St., Phoenix, AZ 85006 For a sweet, plant-based treat, try Nami Café. Nami Café is a plant-based café that sells vegan treats, coffee drinks, and their signature tSoynami. Damon Brasch, the owner of Nami, opened the café in 2010 together with its vegan sister restaurant Green. Brasch and his family have been vegans for many years and at that time there weren’t many vegan restaurants in the valley. “We wanted to show people that vegan food can be just as tempting and delicious and offer people a fresh new option,” said Brasch. Nami’s most popular menu item is the homemade vegan soft ice cream. The main ingredients in tSoynmai include unrefined cane sugar and organic soy and coconut milk. Nami has 18 different signature combinations to try, or you can create your own vegan sundae. Nami creates more than just vegan ice cream, the sweet delicacy café serves brunch on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nami’s weekend brunch features several popular breakfast items such as French toast, eggs benedict, and huevos rancheros.
