(Twitter Photo / Phoenix Fire Department) PHOENIX – Five people escaped unharmed from a burning fast food restaurant in Phoenix Tuesday night, first responders said. Four employees and a customer were in a Carl’s Jr. near Bell and Cave Creek Streets when the fire broke out around 9 p.m., the Phoenix Fire Department said. Crews found the group outside when they reached the compound. Flames ate up the interior and shot through the roof and thick smoke billowed from the restaurant. The fire penetrated an attic and began to weaken the structural integrity of the building, a department spokesman said. More than 75 firefighters finally got the second alarm under control and wiped up hotspots shortly before 2.30 a.m. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
