After uncertain times since the mandatory closure due to the pandemic, Sherman Phoenix, 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave., officially reopened today with food, entertainment and a visit from Governor Tony Evers. Located in a former BMO bank, the Sherman Phoenix is ​​a grocery hall, retail store, healing center, and community building with more than 20 businesses owned mostly by colored people. It opened in 2018 to invest in the community after witnessing the death of a black man by a police officer that sparked riot in the neighborhood. Today, Sherman Phoenix offers a variety of restaurants such as Funky Fresh Spring Rolls, Buffalo Boss, Purple Door Ice Cream, Lush Popcorn, Rise & Grind Coffee, and more. It is also home to hair and nail salons, homeopathic items, clothing, art, yoga, and more. The opening times of Sherman Phoenix are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. wearing masks is still required.
